his tape was made as a part of The Washi Station's collection "World Ghost Stories", which celebrates folklore, mythology and all things spooky from different countries all over the world.

The Skogsrå (meaning "forest nymph") is a being from Nordic mythology.

She's also called the Huldra, and has many different regional shapes. But this one is a spin on the version I grew up with: A beautiful seductress of the forest who looks perfect from the front, but has a back that looks like a hollowed out, rotting tree trunk.

There are numerous tales about this forest spirit, but one thing is for sure: She is very dangerous. She does not like anyone to see her back, as she just wants to show herself in the most beautiful light. And story has it one time she stumbled across a couple of lumberjacks sleeping in their tent in the forest. She peeked at them in curiosity, and could not for the life of her understand why the two of them were different heights. Suddenly, in a flash of inspiration and with the urge to be helpful, she then went to get the axe in their camp. If only she evened them out a little, those pitiful men could finally be equally tall!

It is also said that she seduced men and whisked them away from their wives and family. And as a sort of queen of her forest, she could bless the ones she took a liking to with good luck on their hunts. However - anyone who killed any of her favourite animals would suffer a truly dreadful fate. In the end, the best thing to do if you run into the Skogsrå is to treat her politely and do your best to not get involved."
